The day starts with you being picked up at your place of accommodation at 8am. We will drive through to George and then depending on the weather I like to drive over the Outeniqua mountains via the old Montagu Pass, the oldest unaltered pass in the country. This pass was opened for traffic in 1847. On the return trip we will use the new Outeniqua pass which takes 15 minutes to travel through.

The Cango Caves

Once in Oudtshoorn which is in the Kleinkaroo, a semi-arid region, we will head for the Cango caves where you will join a guided tour of the caves. There is a standard tour and an adventure tour available. The adventure tour takes you along the narrow sections that involve scrambling and crawling, a very popular tour. Once we have had our fun at the caves we will drive back towards Oudtshoorn and stop at one of the Ostrich farms to join a guided tour and learn more about the history and farming of ostriches. For those that are interested in riding an ostrich, here is your opportunity. We will enjoy lunch here at the farm and then carry on driving to the Cango Wildlife Ranch where you will join an informative guided tour of the ranch. You will see a diverse range of animals, from crocodiles to large cats such as lions, cheetahs as well as flying foxes, snakes, lemurs and much more.

This is our last port of call and then we will head back to Knysna, this time going over the Outeniqua pass enjoying the view that unfolds before us as we descend from the mountain.

From this point it is an hour’s drive back to Knysna where you will be dropped off at your place of accommodation.

Transport, cost of tours and lunch is included in the price.
