You will be picked up at your place of accommodation and driven through to The Crags, where you will get the opportunity to visit Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary, Birds of Eden, Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary and the Elephant Sanctuary.

Monkeyland is a 12 hectare primate sanctuary where 9 of the 15 species that are cared for here roam freely. This includes three lemur species, the spectacle langur, black and golden howler monkeys, brown capuchin monkeys, squirrel monkeys and Monkeylands only ape species, the white handed gibbon.

Birds of Eden

The remaining six species are divided into two enclosures, Birds of Eden and a special monkey home for socially unfit monkeys. They live in a large forested free roaming enclosure.

You will be guided through the forest by a well-trained informed guide who will share interesting facts about the species you encounter.

Birds of Eden is a short walk from Monkeyland and is the largest free flight aviary in the southern hemisphere, a massive two hectare aviary. You will be amazed at the variety of African birds you will see, they are healthy and happily interact with one another. There is a boardwalk that meanders throughout the entire aviary that starts in indigenous forest and ends in a wetland area where you will see pelicans and blue cranes. There are over 3500 birds that live at Birds of Eden. Birds of Eden have an excellent restaurant as well that may come in handy for the hungry traveller.

Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary

The Elephant Sanctuary has African elephants and with the help of their guide you will enjoy an interactive experience by being allowed to touch and feed these magnificent animals and leave with a broader insight into the lives and anatomy of elephants.

Our last stop is Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary where all the animals that live here have either been rescued or donated. Their primary concern is the wellbeing of the animals in their care and conveying important information regarding the animals to the public. The animals are in large enclosures and the guides are well informed. Jukani have wild dogs, a honeybadger, lions, leopards, cheetah, caracal, black leopard and hyena to name a few. This is a must see sanctuary and well worth the time!

Once we have visited all the main attractions in The Crags we will drive back to Knysna.

Transport and entrance fees are included in the price.
